Casting World Leaders: Michael Gambon Will Play Winston Churchill in a New Film

Actor Michael Gambon
He already played an epic wizard, and now he will play an epic historical political figure!
Variety reports Michael Gambon (aka the second Albus Dumbledore to anyone who has heard of a little movie series called Harry Potter) will be playing British politician, author, and Nobel Prize winner Winston Churchill.
Gambon will portray the famous former Prime Minister in the ITV-Masterpiece film titled Churchill’s Secret. Here is the film’s summary from Variety:
“Set during the summer months of 1953, Churchill — now British Prime Minister for the second time and in his late 70s — suffers a life-threatening stroke, which is kept secret from the world. Told from the viewpoint of his young nurse, Millie Appleyard, the drama follows his battle to recover as his long-suffering wife, Clemmie, desperately hopes the stroke will force Winston to retire, while his political friends and foes plot to determine who will succeed him. Meanwhile, his adult children descend on his home, Chartwell, unsure if he will pull through, as tensions within his family begin to surface.”
Sounds like a very intriguing take on his lifestory, especially since we will be getting a different viewpoint!
This casting news inspired us to think about other world leaders who have been dream cast on the site. Here are a few of our favorites – you can support them, browse other proposals for each world leader, or propose your own idea!
1. Joseph Morgan as Alexander the Great
Joseph Morgan plays the lead on the hit TV series The Originals, so we already know he has the talent to carry a project. He’d be perfect to play the King of Macedon, who created one of the largest empires of the ancient world.

2. Lupita Nyong’o as Cleopatra
Lupita Nyong’o enthralled audiences with her Oscar-winning performance in 12 Years a Slave, and could convincingly portray the infamous last pharaoh of Egypt. Plus, we’d love to see a more diverse casting for the Queen, especially since there’s little doubt that the real Cleopatra looked more African/Middle Eastern than her past portrayers like Elizabeth Taylor and Angelina Jolie do.

3. Matt Damon as John F. Kennedy
Matt Damon impressed in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, and he’s busy currently filming The Martian with Ridley Scott (which we just got the first images of!), but we would still love to see him as the iconic U.S. President JFK.
