Brilliant Fan Correctly Predicted Who Would be Cast as Clary Fray in ‘ShadowHunters’ TV Show!
The moment has finally arrived! Katherine McNamara will be playing Clary Fray in the new ShadowHunters TV series, based on Cassandra Clare’s novels The Mortal Instruments. The series will air on ABC Family next January, and McG will serve as producer and direct the first episode.
The cast includes: Dominic Sherwood as Jace, Alberto Rosende as Simon, and Emeraude Toubia as Isabelle.
The casting of Clary has been a hot topic on social media, with #WhoisClary also taking over twitter! Katherine is a great, up-and-coming young actress, who will also be in the upcoming film Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials.
Even more amazing, a ShadowHunters fan, Karen Metcalf, used The IF List (the world’s largest platform for movie ideas and dream casting) to propose Katherine McNamara for the part six months ago. Metcalf commented on McNamara’s likeness to the main character saying, “Just look at her. Cassie Clare could have been looking at her when she wrote her physical description of Clary. She’s perfect.”
How awesome that Karen predicted Kat for the part! The ShadowHunters TV show has been a trending topic on The IF List, garnering nearly 5,000 supporters and 97 actresses proposed as Clary. Even ShadowHunters Casting Director Jonathan Clay Harris has been following The IF List on Twitter to keep up with the the fans!

Though IF List fans were initially mixed on the casting of McNamara as Clary with 41 likes and 71 dislikes, now that it’s announced, everyone seems to be warming up to the idea and excited for the show!

Clary Fray is the main protagonist of the novels. While spending time at a New York City nightclub, she sees a group of teenagers with apparent supernatural abilities: Jace, Isabelle, and Alec. She sees them attack a demon who had gone into the club, but soon realizes that she is the only person able to see them. She realizes they are all ShadowHunters: a race of humans who are physically enhanced with angel blood, who secretly protect humanity from demons with their powers. When her mother goes missing, Clary learns that the event is connected to the conflict between the ShadowHunters and their enemies.
Dominic Sherwood will play Clary’s love interest, Jace Wayland.

I don’t like this cast, you should’ve keep the original cast from the movie, Lilly Collins was the perfect Clary, Yes, Katherine looks a lot like the author described Clary on the book, but she is just not the perfect person to play this character, the same to Dominic. I was very excited to see this TV show, because the books where just amazing! But now that the protagonists are chosen, well… This TV show has been crashed for me. I don’t like them. I’ll always stick with the movie cast. My humble opinion, but many people think the same.

I also think the original cast were perfect. Lily was good as clary, they could just dye her hair a bit redder but she’s actually pretty good. I’m neutral with Jamie being Jace but I think he didn’t do that bad. Isabelle (Jemima), Alec (Kevin) and Magnus (Godfrey) were PERF! Kevin and Godfrey make an excellent Alec and Magnus. I want to see them retain their roles though.

We know you’re trying your best to choose a new cast but we, the fans, kind of disagree with somethings. For instance, I’ve read the six books and I’ve been waiting for the TV series cause the movie was total cliff-hanger. But after seeing the TV series’ new cast err–that some characters doesn’t fit the ‘description’ Mrs. Clare gave in the book seemed disappointing to me–. I know you can’t always find someone who fits the appearance that was given in the book but please find a close one. like *ehem* *simon* *ehem* he wasn’t suppose to look like that. 😦 AND ISABELLE !! GOSH !! I’m so disappointed at the that 😥 The old isabelle is perfect !
Anyways I’m sorry for this I just need to let it out. 😦 But still I’m going to support The TV series. I want to give them a chance. And if Mrs. Clare is happy then yeah. I’ll give it a shot.

Hi, Yna, we aren’t casting the series, only dream casting and sharing news on the exciting project! Cassandra Clare is more than happy with the casting so far, and we plan to keep supporting it also. We hope you still enjoy the series, as it’s really impressive and rare that the novels are getting a second change on screen!

I think the characters that are part of the film should be the same. Or at least Clary, Jace, Simon and Magnus. Sorry, the Simon who chose not to look like Simon that many fans realize. And Lilly Collins is perfect for the role of Clary Fray.

In my opinion we should give a chance to the whole new cast, yes, the original cast was good, but we can’t start judging the new cast when we don’t even saw them acting in their roles. And I think the reason they are changing the cast, was because if they’re going to start all over again they should do it ALL over again (including the cast). In addition, the actors and actresses of the original cast, probably have many new projects, and I’m not saying that ShadowhuntersTV can not be one of them, but simply to do a television series takes a long time. That’s just my PERSONAL OPINION about the situation, please respect it, anyone can think differently.
